My time in San Francisco was one of extremes. It featured the best burger I’ve ever had, cycling about 30 miles and reaching the point where I literally couldn’t pedal any more, and getting up before 4am in a bid to securing Alcatraz tickets. I was tired, I was cold, and at times I was elated.
Here’s what I learned from my fantastic weekend in this city.
Why do you keep going back to the same place?
This is one of the questions I get asked the most. Everyone knows that I love exploring new places, so why do I keep going back to the same part of central Florida time and time again?
Annoyingly, the only answer to this that I’ve ever conjured up is that ‘you’d understand if you’ve been there yourself’. My friends that have visited the ‘place where magic lives’ agree with this overwhelmingly. It’s hard to explain the atmosphere, the immersion and the fun to someone who is adamant that you’re a bit of a hypocrite.
So, here is my attempt to try and put my reasons into words. It will probably be in vain, but I’m sure all the converts out there will be nodding along.
Travelling is my passion. It’s why I get out of bed in the morning, slave away at work until 6pm, and put every spare penny I own into a metaphorical travel piggybank. While others save up for make-up, gig tickets, designer clothes or gourmet meals, I live carefully and then blow all my savings on an amazing trip once per year.
There’s just one problem, though.
Have you heard of a little place called Walt Disney World? Well, it kind of owns my heart. ‘Obsession’ isn’t quite strong enough to describe the love I have it. So far, it’s my favourite place in the world.
