It’s official. The I’s have been dotted and the T’s have been crossed, and I’m set to move to the other side of the city next week. It’s time to say goodbye to my rubbish house share and move back in with my housemate of three years from uni, who is coincidentally also my best friend. It’s going to be pretty amazing, despite the longer commute and higher rent. You can’t have everything, right?
I’ve also been getting back into the swing of work after being away for a week. It’s such a culture shock to return back to the sights and sounds of the city after spending a week in a small town. I think I relaxed into my time off a little too much because going back to work was tough, but I made it through.
Also this week, one of my dreams came true. I’ve wanted to see this musical ever since the Lion King roared onto the London stage in 1999 and on Wednesday I got to live my dream. Plus, we did it in style, celebrating Holly’s birthday with fabulous Circle seats and a champagne celebration package. Stay tuned for a special review post coming later this week.
Good news on the running front. If you’ve been following my weekly round-ups for a while, you might remember when I signed up for a half marathon. Bizarrely, the race is now only one month away. I had been really worried because my knees had started really hurting after around 5 miles during my training – much less than the 12 that I’ll have to run in the race. Thankfully KT tape has come to my rescue. Now I have to tape up my knees before any long runs and the pain has virtually disappeared. It’s a running miracle!
After much deliberation, I’ve also decided who I would like to raise money for. I’m splitting my fundraising equally between War Child, who protect and educate children in war-torn countries, and the Eve Appeal, who support women with gynecological cancers. If you have a bit of spare cash, it would mean so much if you could donate to these amazing causes here: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Lisa.Preece
After Saturday’s mammoth 16km run, I went to Ellie Steadman’s Disney meet-up in Hyde Park for a few hours, as you may have guessed from today’s cover photo! It was lovely to sit and chat with other Disney fans for a few hours while having some snacks. Definitely a great way to spend the afternoon, though I had to quickly dash off to a birthday meal and night out so couldn’t stay as long as I might have liked.
On Sunday, I went to the Notting Hill Carnival for the second year running. I didn’t really enjoy my visit on the Monday last year, partly because of the weird atmosphere and rain. This year we went on ‘family day’, where the performers are kids. There were a lot less intimidating groups and a lot more babies, which is always a good thing!
Despite the odd shower, we had a good time dancing to the music from some of the trucks and picking up some jerk chicken with rice and beans. Yum!
Accio Victoria – I do love a good movie analysis, and you already know that I love Disney rather a lot. Victoria managed to combine these two things together in her dissertation, and now she’s posting sections onto her blog. It’s really interesting reading.
Pretty Not Included – I love writing, and yet it’s easy to be drawn into the same patterns and styles of writing without really improving. This blog has definitely inspired me to branch out a little more and get creative again.
Pint Sized Beauty – Reading on the tube is great so I’m always on the look out for new book recommendations. These four sound like they would be perfect to devour on the commute – and who can go wrong with a bit of Harry Potter?
That’s all for this week! The next week or two are going to be super hectic with the move and lack of wifi in our new flat. It will all be worth it in the end, though.
